Democracies still need the press and particularly require an unloveable press. They
need journalists who get in the face of power
– Michael Schudson
Smart political journalism helps democracies thrive
It provides an essential check — on governments at every level, on public institutions –
wherever the power to affect the lives of citizens is concentrated.
The Political Matters Journalism Internship puts students into the midst of political
journalism in Ottawa, giving them an opportunity to work in the parliamentary
bureaus of select Canadian news organizations under the mentorship of senior
journalists.
With regret, organizers of the Political Matters Journalism Internship have decided to suspend the program for 2020 due to the spread of COVID-19.
The program - designed to provide two student journalists with an opportunity to hone their political reporting skills on Parliament Hill - will be relaunched in 2021.
